Chief Financial Officer

Yebo Fresh is an award-winning online grocery platform focusing on South Africa’s mass market. Our unique business model and partnerships with manufacturers allow us to deliver an unbeatable offer at an extremely competitive price point. We serve families, NGO’s, Schools, ECDs, and township food businesses such as Spazas and fast food restaurants.


For the customer, using Yebo Fresh means avoiding the hassle, cost and risk of overcrowded and/or expensive transport, long queues, and carrying heavy bulk goods. For FMCGs, working with Yebo Fresh means direct access into the mass market and a great partnership for direct deliveries, customer insights, product testing, POS marketing etc.


Position: Chief Financial Officer


Yebo Fresh has recently raised a pre-Series A round and grant funding from the Jobs Fund. The business is looking for a CFO to lead all corporate finance and financial management initiatives as it enters a phase of rapid growth. Yebo Fresh has offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg.


Key initiatives include:

  • Accelerating growth and driving operational excellence by partnering closely with the CEO and leadership team to proactively identify and execute key initiatives.

  • Empowering the organization with accurate and timely financial reporting, inquisitive and detailed financial forecasting, powerful strategic and analytical horsepower to support business units, and rigorous processes to support business growth and scale.

  • Leading departmental planning and budget preparation, and influencing decision-making across the company with objective and data-driven financial and strategic frameworks to support business growth and scale.

  • Effectively preparing and communicating business analysis and financial reporting to the board of directors and investors, driving strategic decision-making.


Profile of candidate:


Despite your solid professional experience, you understand that a startup requires an agile and hands-on mindset. As a key leader within the organization, this role requires a cool head and the ability to solve complex problems with creative solutions.


Role & Responsibilities:

  • Lead all of the company’s corporate finance activities, managing the organization's fundraising initiatives and optimizing capital structure

  • Drive the company's financial planning initiatives

  • Develop and implement best practices and tools to ensure a well-controlled yet flexible organization that has strong fiscal management, project coordination, cross-team communications, and workflows

  • Take responsibility (either directly or via staff) for all cash management, investments, payroll, insurance, budgeting, and financial reporting, and help drive the company’s financial strategy and hiring needs

  • Ensure cash flow is compatible with operations by overseeing day-to-day accounting, recording, reporting, and internal-control activities of the organization

  • Manage team of financial controllers and finance professionals across 2 regions

  • Work with senior managers to efficiently develop budget proposals, and ensure contract/grant compliance and reporting

  • Prepare reliable current and forecasting reports

  • Provide oversight of the business’s buy-now-pay-later solution, working with our blue-chip corporate partners to build out a market-leading product

  • Research revenue opportunities and economic trends, analyze internal operations, and identify areas for cost reduction and process enhancement

  • Perform risk management through analysis of company liabilities and investments, and evaluate and manage capital structure and fundraising initiatives

  • Coordinating with external service providers on payroll, taxation and company secretarial requirements

  • Monitor business performance with tracking tools, establish corrective measures as needed, and prepare detailed reports for management, the board and investors

  • Manage major vendor and supplier relationships with procurement team

  • Ensure compliance with South Africa law and company’s policies


Requirements and skills:

  • 10+ years work experience

  • Minimum BSc/BA in Accounting, Finance or relevant field; MSc/MBA is a plus, CA (SA) is a strong advantage

  • Proven experience as an executive, CFO, finance officer, corporate financier or relevant role

  • Experience with fast growing, dynamic businesses a must

  • Having led, or been involved in raising capital in South Africa is a plus

  • Knowledge of South African company law and risk management practices

  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and accounting software (e.g. Xero)

  • Ability to strategize and solve problems

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills

  • Excellent communication and people skills

  • An analytical mind, comfortable with numbers This is a hybrid (WFH / in-office) role and reports directly to the CEO


Remuneration:

  • Cash salary

  • Potential for non-cash stock options

Contract Type: Permanent Employment Contract with a 3-month probationary period.
